Natalia Diaz Ortega came out to show me her work and let me take this picture of her in her huipil and many of her woven goods. The weavers in this village have difficulty marketing there products due to the isolation of the town. |
A huipil from the collection purchased in 1975. |
Detail of the pattern on the front of the huipil. The newer huipils are not as detailed and the weave is looser. This sad fact and is true all over Mexico and it is one of the principal reasons for this project. |
Two patterns from the front of the huipil. In the collection there is also a red back strap woven wrap skirt from the 1970’s, however it is not pictured here. |
The sacred mountain (La Malinche) hidden in the clouds. I was able to see it and there is no doubt of its power and it is rightfully named for a woman. La Malinche was the Indian bride of Cortez. Without knowing it was sacred, I felt it's power and was latter informed what it was. |
The town has a series of paths that go from one level to another, this is due to the fact that the town is built on the side of a mountain. |
