During a visit to San Juan Tetelcingo the church was under reconstruction. The mass was help outside and these woman were talking after a blessing of the chapel. With the help of a man from the municipality I was able to take a number of hots of these women. In the detail of the photos we are

San Juan from the road which drops down to the town. Across the river there is a place where small river comes out of the hillside.

Chucharitas adorn the entrance to the chapel. These adornments are common in many Nahuatla towns and I have seen the as far north as the Coras in Nayarit. These circles are made from a palm like plant and have some special meaning , which I am not sure about, but I keep looking for an answer. Photos 2005

Inside the chapel, this photo was taken a week before a festival in Feb 2005. The interesting thing here is we are able to see the traditional skirt made from store bought material but with a lace adornment and the size of the apron. The rebosos is ever present and used for so many things. This region is very hot and the rebosos is used to cover the head when walking in the open.

San Juan had three chrches at the time of the visit in 2005.

The towns streets have been paved. Notice in this photo the area near the first telephone pole is not paved. Each person is responsible to pay for the work or the materials or both, the paving there will happen but shows how recent the paving of the streets was in late January 2005.

One of the other churches in town, behind are the deforested hills which lead down to the river below.

The three quarters sleeve is common in these towns and villages , down the road the are still embroidered but here I didn't see any.

It took much convincing to get these shots, in the center in the gold reboso the traditional blouse can be seen at the neck line,
