Tlilcalco, Xoxocotla, Veracruz is a small community on the outskirts of Xoxcotla. Traditional dress is all but extinct here. There are people in the comunity that spin and weave wool garments and crafts on backstrap looms.

I spend a longer than usual time here in Tlilcalco speaking with the local women who were very interested in my project and other aspects of my life. It is always nice to stop and talk and smell the roses. The conversation drifted into Nahuatl words and political issues and textiles. Many of the women were part of a collective that had a trout farm in an area below. They invited us to go, Tony who is from the Amatitla Eco farm has a great deal of knowledge about fish farms. A man and women from the town stood for a shoot showing the use of the wool “mangas” ponchos. The old style traditional costume was no longer in use but a stylized type of dress was in use here. When various women wear a similar looking dress I call it a stylized indigenous costume.
