This family has four sons that live in the US, a common story here in the Sierra. We spent a nice late afternoon chatting about legends and traditional food. There is a legend about a cave, were a man, tired of working in the fields took refuge. The local people became concerned and began to take him food. He gradually converted into a “brujo” or witch being enchanted by the cave. After a long period, he died and was taken down the mountain to his home for burial. At the wake, illuminated by only candlelight, a cold breeze suddenly blew into the house and everything went dark. When the stunned mourners could finally light the candles, his body was gone. It is supposed that he was taken by the spirits of the cave into de depth.
