Pantepec is a Totanaca / Otomi town that has left its textile traditions behind. On a visit there looking for textiles in 1994, the town was very modern and orderly with no textiles visible. At the mayors office they directed me to the Mateo’s family. I was lucky to find a complete costume that they were willing to sell.

A view up river, this region gets lots of rain and is very fertile.

The blouse the goes along with the skirt. It is also of poplin with machine stitched embroidery. This type of embroidery is done on an old style treadle sewing machine.
