Tuzamapan de Galeana is a municipal capital dominated by Totonacan speakers. The traditional costume is the embroidered running stitch blouse, white wrap skirt, broad Totonaca belt and the lace quechquemitl.

In recent year the Mexican government has begun programs to help the elderly overcome poverty and abandonment. In the town of Tuzamapan I was directed to a center called “Casa de Abue” which means house of the grandparents. At his center there were 30 women working on drawings and other mutual activities. Of those 30 women there were about 5 wearing Totonacan attire. Three of these women agreed to participate in the textile study. They were photographed in front of the church.
