Axolotla, Nauzontla, Puebla Mexico is a small Nahua community in the Nauzontla district. Traditional attire is confined to the very oldest generation. It consist of an embroidered blouse, a store bought skirt, apron and a hand woven red belt. ©Robert Freund 200712/17/2007

San Rafael Axolotla is a small community were traditional costume is all but gone. These images were taken in 10/2005 while on a trip to the festival in Cuetzalan. This great grandmother is one of two women that was wearing traditional dress in the village.
"It is interesting that in Mexican indigenous culture the elderly are given task to perform and are included in all family activities. Here she was given the task of removing the corn kernels from the cobs in order to make tortilla.
