Xochistlahuaca, Guerrero an Amusgo town with a strong textile tradition. There are various textile collectives which are dedicated to the preservation of the art of weaving. There is a small store in town which sells the work of the artisans to the locals and visitors. .

In the collection there are number of different pieces from the Amusgo region. These huipil close ups are examples of brocade from 30 years ago. The white on white huipil was purchase in 1971 and the lace commercial huipil was purchased in 2000. he side by side shows the older style of hand woven white on white huipil and the now popular transparent commercial lace huipil. The lighter lace huipil requires a strapped dress for modesty sake.

The traditional men’s white muslin pants and shirt is worn widely in the Amusgo region, on the left lower row there is an Amusgo man and his wife. She is making tortillas by hand over an open fire. The napkin is typical of the sort of weaving, it is often made in a slightly larger style and used to wrap tortillas, it is them called a tortllera.
