It is said that the large rocks at the base of the mountain are the result of the angry spirits splitting the rock and throwing down the boulders. Andres tells me that the mountain was a portal to a higher level however when the spirits were angered they crushed the ladder. The spirit later gave the people corn in compensation for the loss of the access to the next word. The indigenous people of the Chicontepec region come here to make offering on the side of the mountain. It was easy to feel the power of the mountain and the strong impression it has on the local residents. The town has a weekly market and many people from the surrounding pueblos bring there products and embroidery to sell.
