The traditional wrap skirt is hand woven cotton with narrow alternating brown and white strips. During the dance many women arrived in the classic fiesta huipil, the mix between traditional and modern was about 30 % traditional. The picture second from the right is from the weekly market where many traditional huipils are worn. A side street on the out skirts of town is pictured on the right. There was a lot of new construction going on in town as many people go to the US to work. We stayed at the home of a friend who lives in Fairfax Ca. The streets in the center of town are paved but almost no side streets (2002). Activity in the market was high due to the fiesta. Mixe peoples, from towns nearby, arrived at the festival also.
