Once in town there was a mass in which the saint was taken out of the church and carried in a procession. Prior to the procession the women and men kissed the saints. Overnight, the alter had been built in the church of palm fronds and chucahras (traditional ceremonial plant). To me its steps and elevate presence seemed very much like a pre Hispanic alters I have seen in so many places. At the head of the procession is the Centurion dress in a black veil riding a horse, the battalion of “borados” carry mock lances in the form of bamboo staffs. The procession circles the villages and the saints are returned to the church. The interior of the church is very indigenous there are no pews and the center of the church is open, along the side there is a small alter attended by a curanderos.
