It took a while to find a map that actually had this village on it. As you can see it is very remote and only accessible by foot. The huipil was purchased in 1974 in Oaxaca City from a friend who visits the region. The huipil was identified by a number of local people (2002) and a similar one is shown in "Mexican Indian Costumes" by Donald and Dorothy Cordry. The woven designs are typical of the region. The woman wearing the huipil is Annie Owen, who wore it during a fashion show in San Geronimo California in 1998. |
