Ojitlan, Oaxaca- A large Chinantec town were custom and tradition are still strong but textiles and language are diminishing in use. A handicraft union is preserving their textile traditions by teaching textiles technique to younger women.

On this page, there are a number of traditional textile patterns from Ojitlan. The typical day-to-day huipil has three woven pieces joined with multicolored embroidery. On the bottom row, they are finishing a day-to-day huipil (red) and in the last two pictures are working on a gala huipil, filling in the design.
