Ixtayutla, Oaxaca has a unique fucsina stained brocaded huipil and hand spun and woven mens costumes. The village is very remote and is not frequently visited. There is a mans costume and a complete womens costume in the collection. Bob Freund 8/19/2004 For more information contact info@mexicantextiles.com Return to Coastal Mixtec home page

This village is very remote and I have not visited there. It is of course on the list. The unique discoloration is kinda like tie-die the weavers use a fuscina to color the threads and then wet it and use it like a stamp. There are examples of huipils in this gallery from mine and the collection of Elwell / Aleto.
