Up Home » Nahua of Cuautempan, Puebla, Mexico

The municipality of Cuautempan is located in the northern Sierra of Mexico. Adjacent to Tepezintla, Tetela de Ocampo, Zongozotla. It is of Nahuatl decent. A large number of people still speak Nahuatl. There are bi lingual schools, among the older generation they are aware of the shift towards modernism. The mai traitional costume cinsist of a black wool wrap skirt, a distictive red belt still woven in the region and embroidfered blose , sometiem from communities outside of the municipality and a peasant blouse with reboso. There are more than a few remote communities but there is an intensive road building effort going on to connect Cuctempa with the Interserano road.
