After speaking with the municipal authorities they sent us to this woman who apart from wearing traditional costume daily also teaches spinning and weaving to youngsters at the secondary school. When we arrived she had just finished washing her hair and was about to get changed. So our timing was perfect and she went inside and put on her finest costume for us and also wove into her hair tlapiales (a traditional hair adornment).

I had noticed in the town on my prior visit that some of the women were wearing a red belt which was different than the traditional striped belt. When we arrived there our participant was actually wearing a red belt however when she went inside to change she put on the striped belt. I asked her about this and she said that the red belt was a traditional bell for los Reyes but the more complex striped belt was more appropriate for formal occasions and festivals.

Los Reyes is known as a very cold place it's at the top of the mountain and one of the areas known as the zona fria or cold zone. Almost every time I turn through this region the temperature is dropped and there is fog surrounding the hillsides
