Tlaxico, Zongolica, Veracruz, Mexico is a Nahua agricultural community located above Zongolica. Steep trails and verdant countryside and spectacular views prevail here. Traditional dress is still worn for festivals and among the older generations.Robert Freund 11/12/2007

Classic costume worn on special occations , it also could be worn day to day but this was a special one she wears on Sunday market and festivals. The mountains in the background are from Los Reyes municipality the town of Totolinga.

We found this 103 year ols woman walk with two walking stick, she has on the traditional costume , worn on a day to day basis. She made me shot a photo with her belt showing.

This woman wash washing and allowed us to shoot her standing there as well as her cloths drying on the cloths line. Sometime the cloths line tell the whole story. You can see the nicer blouses were being washed. She spoke only a few words of Sapnish and our friend , who spoke Nahuatl translated for us.

There are many evangelical Christians in the region busy killing indigenous culture. The Chapel here is maintained by the families that continue to hold to traditional Catholic / Indigenous religious beliefs. The woman is holding a status of the Virgin of Juquila, she is held by many indigenous people in the south of Mexico as miraculous.
