Atla, Pahuatlan Puebla is a town with a distinct pepinada blouse as part of its traditional dress. There is also a white or black wrap skirt and a hand woven belt which is unique to the town. The quechquemitl is not used as much.

There are two styles of blouses worn in Atla, both are based on choice the Pepinada and the running stitch. There are many artisans in the town and on Sunday they sell their crafts and textiles in the market of Pahuatlan. The third photo is a sampler that contain a number of different designs used on the traditional blouse.

These photos are of some of the town’s folk in traditional blouses, skirts and belts. What is different here is that the shoulders of the blouses are not machine stitched as in many other Nahua villages in the region. The first women is wearing a Pepinada blouse while the second and third women are wearing the more traditional blouses, these two ladies are from the Francisca family and are dedicated to textile embroidery.

The last two photos in this gallery are of a quechquemitl that I purchased in 1996 while on a documenting trip to Mexico. They are back strap woven and exhibit a number of different woven patterns
