Teotitlan del Valle is on the Road to Mitla from Oaxaca City. This is the international highway that reaches the Guatemalan border. Teotitlan is a prosperous town whose weaving talents has allowed them the re-enforce their traditions.
Wool is woven into a wonderful variety of rug, throws, bags and other loomed products. Traditional dress is still seen on many women although it is fading, Zapotec is spoken everywhere. Her Sra. Martinez is carding wool.
Huichache a heavily thorned bush is the source of these pods which when boiled with wool, colors the wool a black. Natural dies are used extensively and command an increased price.
The Teotitlan looms, almost every house has weavers in then. The town is a beehive of weaving activity , if you can’t find what you want they will weave it for you.
