El Tordillo, Vera Cruz the older Nahua women wear embroidered blouses or knit blouses. There is a large secondary school in town.

This series of photos was taken after we talked to the ¨committee ¨the women of the village were getting together to clean the streets and work on the town meeting hall. That spirit of community, which is NOT present in the larger mestizo towns, is a custom in much of the Huasteca region. I first encountered it in the Huautla district of Hidalgo, during that trip, since it was Carnival I some how imagined the women of the town sweeping the street to be part of the fiesta. Since that time I have seen it over and over in both Hidalgo and Vera Cruz.
